Director of Purchasing

Summary of primary duties and responsibilities:

The Director of Purchasing is responsible for the purchasing function, ensuring L&L has a supply base that supports the product and manufacturing strategies, and developing best-in-class processes to drive service level improvement. He or she will work across functional and geographic boundaries to ensure high levels of customer service and satisfaction, relative to supplier service levels, and maintenance of appropriate inventory levels.

  • Lead purchasing personnel to achieve goals in a manner consistent with our vision, philosophy, and policies.
  • Implement effective and reliable sources of supply on a global basis, including a proven track record of results in domestic and international manufacturing environments.
  • Develop the overall regional procurement and supply strategy for L&L Products North and South America.
  • Collaborate with global counterparts to apply best practices in all elements of procurement, including leveraging the global L&L supply base.
  • Integrate with other departments and L&L global entities to translate needs into strategies and build practices that support our strategic initiatives.
  • Develop and build relationships with the supply base to ensure that we are receiving world class service at a world class price.
  • Develop and implement purchasing processes in our ERP system to ensure a world class process flow, providing the right product at the right time to our manufacturing partners locally and around the world.
  • Actively participate in the strategic planning process, aligning the strategic initiatives for purchasing with the overall strategic objectives.
  • Monitor macro trends in supplier and contract bases and implement plans to react.
  • Discuss defective or unacceptable new goods or services with users, vendors, and others to determine cause of problem and take corrective and preventative action.

Education/Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent years of experience
  • 10+ years’ experience in purchasing/procurement
  • 5+ years’ experience in a leadership role

Skills:

  • Strategic thinking, outstanding negotiation skills and a thorough understanding of supply-based management
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Ability to close transactions in a timely manner
  • Ability to travel internationally
  • Portuguese and/or Spanish language skills are a plus
