Structural Bonding Adhesives

L&L’s structural bonding technology enables the integration of lightweight materials while improving the overall performance and strength of the body structure.

In response to the automotive industry’s efforts to make vehicles lighter and stronger, we have developed a wide range of adhesives for structural bonding that are principally epoxy-based and heat activated, which are applied prior to the e-coat process.

Our adhesives are formulated to provide superior performance and durability when bonding both similar and dissimilar materials – steel, aluminum, magnesium, carbon fiber and thermoplastics.

When bonding dissimilar materials, our adhesives are designed to manage coefficient of thermal expansion (∆cte) differences as well as maintaining substrate separation to prevent galvanic corrosion.

In addition, our structural bonding adhesives are commonly used to replace or enhance existing joining techniques such as welding and mechanical fastening.

Our adhesives have the ability to bond areas of the vehicle where there is limited weld accessibility, varying design gaps, and joints consisting of dissimilar materials.

L&L’s structural adhesive systems are available in a number of forms including:

  • Tapes
  • Films
  • Patches (continuous and die-cut)
