Global Experts Unite:

Expanding the Performance Envelope of Silyl-Modified Polymer Adhesives at WAC 2026

From 16–18 September 2026, the global adhesives and sealants community will gather at the Queen Elizabeth II Centre in London for the World Adhesive & Sealant Conference and EXPO 2026—one of the industry’s principal international forums for scientific exchange, innovation and collaboration.

L&L Products R&D Manager Dr Claudio Toncelli will present new research on the development of high-strength silyl-modified polymer adhesives. His work explores how SMP technology can move beyond its traditional role in sealing and flexible bonding to achieve semi-structural strength—without sacrificing the high elasticity that makes these materials valuable for dynamic and mixed-material joints.

The presentation examines the formulation science behind this balance, the interaction between polymer architecture, crosslinking functionality, adhesion promoters and fillers, and the role of complementary 1K and 2K cure strategies in meeting different manufacturing requirements.

A Global Stage for Adhesive and Sealant Innovation

Held under the theme “Reinventing the Future,” WAC 2026 will bring together adhesive and sealant producers, raw-material suppliers, researchers, equipment specialists and downstream users from around the world.

Across three days of plenary presentations, technical breakout sessions, exhibitions and networking events, participants will explore topics including advanced adhesive formulation, sustainability and circularity, digitalisation, process control, regulatory developments, emerging raw materials and new industrial applications.

Claudio will present “Development of High-strength Silyl-modified Polymer Adhesives” during Breakout Session XIV, “SMP Chemistry: Advancing Adhesive Performance.”

Presentation details: Friday, 18 September 2026 | 11:00–11:30 | Room Whittle, Floor 3

His contribution places L&L Products alongside international researchers and materials specialists working to expand the capabilities of silane-modified adhesive technologies.

The L&L Touch: Moving SMP Adhesives into the Semi-Structural Range

Silyl-modified polymer adhesives are widely valued for their elasticity, broad substrate adhesion, moisture-curing chemistry and isocyanate-free profile. However, increasing cohesive strength commonly introduces a difficult formulation trade-off: as network density rises, the adhesive can become less capable of accommodating deformation.

Claudio’s work addresses a central technical question:

Can an SMP adhesive achieve semi-structural strength without giving up the high elongation required for vibration, thermal expansion and differential movement?
