Bond Solutions

Lightweighting initiatives often require the use of multi-material bonding across all industries. Our adhesive technologies are designed to create structural bonds and improve overall performance while at the same time help to prevent galvanic corrosion, improve durability, and improve worker safety and efficiency.

Ambient Curing Structural Adhesives

About

Two-component, fast curing structural adhesives are in widespread use in several industries such as automotive, commercial vehicle, rail transport, wind energy, where they provide structural bonds in assemblies that require multi-material bonding. L&L Products developed a line of structural adhesives based on novel acrylate and epoxy technologies called the A-K Series.

The A-K Series is a range of high performance, ambient curing pumpable materials formulated to provide durable, high strength structural adhesive bonds to a wide variety of substrates. L&L strives to develop adhesives with the lowest hazard labels in their respective classes. Certified flame-retardant products are available for bus and train applications.

Key Attributes

  • Robust primerless adhesion to composites and metals for optimum structural performance
  • Wide range of cure speeds
  • High tensile strength and elongation
  • Available in a variety of thixotropy levels to suit specific application requirements
  • Available in cartridges, pails and drums

Benefits

  • Low odor
  • Improves worker safety
  • Low shrinkage for reduced rework on bonded structures

Structural Adhesive Films

About

Our structural adhesive films bond substrates upon heat application. Structural adhesive films demonstrate properties such as high strength, rigidity, toughness and the ability to be stored at room temperature, eliminating the need for refrigeration.

In order to meet a long-existing industry need, L&L Products developed T-Link™, an advanced engineering thermoplastic adhesive hybrid resin that does not require refrigeration or special handling and can be easily and quickly consolidated into a composite structure.

In addition to film, T-Link™ is available in other forms, including resin pellets, monofilament, multifilament, coated yarns, powder, fiber veil, and unidirectional composite/tape.

Structural Adhesive Tapes

About

In response to the need among many industries for lower weight combined with improved structural performance, we offer a wide range of tacky structural adhesives in tape form that are principally epoxy-based and heat-activated. Our adhesive tapes bond areas where there is limited weld accessibility, varying design gaps and requirements to join dissimilar substrates. When bonding dissimilar substrates, adhesive tapes can help manage coefficient of thermal expansion (∆CTE) differences while maintaining substrate separation to prevent galvanic corrosion.

Our structural tapes are applied to the substrate prior to the e-coat process. After the e-coat has been applied, our heat-activated structural adhesive tapes expand (in some cases) and cure.

All structural adhesive tapes are 0.5 – 3.0 mm, have a variety of expansion rates, and can be supplied in tape form or die-cut.

Key Attributes

  • High strength
  • High ductility
  • Pressure sensitive for temporary fixation prior to heat activation
  • Increases durability & stiffness
  • Gap jumping capabilities
  • Weld & manufacturing fastening alternative

Benefits

  • Solves galvanic corrosion
  • Bonds dissimilar metals
  • Bonds oily substrates
